What is ESWT?

ESWT (Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy) is, in short, shock wave therapy. It is a non-invasive application method based on focusing powerful sound waves generated outside the body on a desired area of the body using a steel-tipped applicator. Based on the principle of electro-hydraulic energy, it enables the application of high pressure and high energy in a very short time, providing the possibility of treatment with high success in just a few sessions.

For which conditions can ESWT be used?
Calcified shoulder pain: Shoulder pain caused by inflammation in the joint due to calcium deposits in the tendons near the shoulder joint. Tennis elbow and golfer's elbow: Elbow pain complaints arising from overuse. Heel spur: Over time, tears and damage occur under the heel bone due to excessive strain. The resulting tissue inflammation and hardening are replaced by a bony structure. It is a complaint that causes pain when pressure is applied. Other application areas: Impingement syndrome, Tendinitis, Tendopathy, Patellar tip syndrome, Trochanter major, Achilodyna

What is the treatment duration, and how many sessions are required?
Session durations may vary depending on the number of shocks applied, frequency, and energy level. An average session lasts 20-25 minutes. In soft tissue applications, patients experience relief from their complaints within 3 to 5 sessions.

Where is ESWT not used?
It is not used in pregnant women, patients with pacemakers, or cancer patients. It is also not used in areas close to the head, neck, and nerves, or on bones that have not yet completed their development.

Are there any side effects?
There are no side effects other than slight redness of the skin caused by shock wave therapy. Patients can resume their daily activities after treatment.

When will the patient notice the effects?
Pain reduction may be seen within one week after the first session. The goal of ESWT treatment is not temporary pain relief, but permanent treatment.

What is the success rate of ESWT?
It has a success rate of 80% for shoulder calcification, 70% for tennis and golfer's elbow, and 85% or higher for heel spurs. ESWT Treatment has begun.
