Dry Needling
Dry needling is primarily used in the treatment of myofascial pain, commonly known as muscle knots. However, it is a safe method that can be used in many situations involving painful muscle spasms other than muscle knots. Myofascial pain generally arises from the muscle being used too intensely or in the wrong position. It most commonly occurs in the neck, back, and lumbar muscles. We can cite neck pain experienced by those who use computers for long periods as an example. Along with this, myofascial pain can occur secondarily to the primary disease due to painful muscle spasms in conditions such as cervical disc herniation, shoulder problems, tendon rheumatism, and lumbar disc herniation.
Dry needling uses stainless steel and very thin acupuncture needles.
No medication is injected into the muscle during the procedure.
The needle inserted into the painful points causes these points to release and the muscle to return to its normal tension. Depending on the patient's complaints, 3-5 sessions are applied at 5-7 day intervals.
Although the dry needling method can reduce and eliminate pain on its own, it must be combined with appropriate stretching exercises.
